Replay Commentary PvZ 1
Not the best game in the world, but I think this replay is a good demonstration of what can happen in Starcraft II if you do not maintain the pressure. Artosis, the protoss player (perhaps the same Artosis pro protoss player from Starcraft I?), takes his time and builds up slowly – not terribly unusual protoss play. However, he fails to keep any aggression or scouting going, and the Zerg player manages to secure a decisive economic advantage. After this, it is a simple matter for the zerg to figure out a proper method of attack and take out the protoss in one fell swoop.
Of particular interest:
- Nydus worms are going to be extremely useful, but need to be very sneaky. They seem to be extremely brittle, and it only took a few brief seconds to take them down once focus fired.
- Roaches still regenerate at a rapid pace. The roaches in this game were able to withstand several barrages of psi storm with some careful burrowing. This indicates the burrowing roaches will be a crucial aspect of micromanagement.
- This is one of many games I’ve watched where things have quickly spiraled out of control for the losing player. It seems that micromanagement/strategic mistakes can be much less forgiving in Starcraft II. Perhaps they did this to avoid extremely long game times? Perhaps it’s just an artifact of the lack of experience of the player base so far? Who knows…
